About Shipping Duties (to Canadian customers)
Hey everyone, Tyler here.
So, what exactly are shipping duties, and more importantly, will you have to pay for them?
While we try to get all of our products from within Canada itself, there may be the odd shirt or item that comes from another country. This usually occurs when our local Canadian supplier isn’t able to stock the right size or colour, resulting in our storefront automatically selecting a distant location. When this happens, you’ll see a new shipping method at checkout called Standard DDP. This new option is more expensive, but what does it do, exactly?
Standard DDP stands for Delivered Duty Paid. If you see this option, we highly recommend selecting it, despite the increase in price. You see, this delivery method will guarantee that there are no additional duties required by Canadian customs. If you do not select Standard DDP, you will be charged additional custom fees upon delivery, of which you will need to pay. Potentially Tragic is not responsible for any fees enforced by the Canadian government.
Once again, if you see Standard DDP as a delivery option, pick this.
But what if you don’t select Standard DDP? What happens then?
Simply put, if you see Standard DDP as an available delivery option, and if you choose not to select it, your shirt will be held at customs, since it is coming from outside of Canada. You will be required to pay any fees associated with the delivery. Now, there is a chance that the custom fees and duties will be lower than the Standard DDP price, but do you really want to take that risk? It is simply better and more convenient to pay for it at checkout to ensure a fast and reliable delivery, than to go through the hassle of contacting the Canada Border Services Agency.
Summary
If you see the Standard DDP option at checkout, you should select this. The price is going to be higher, but you’re also guaranteed to have any and all custom fees and duties paid for on our end, rather than having to deal with any of that yourself.
The normal Standard option will still be there, for those of you that wish to deal with the Canada Border Services Agency directly, and pay any additional fees they may enforce.
